Defensive driving course is not only for less experienced new drivers, people with huge experience of driving should also pursue defensive driving course for the sake of their safety and also for the safety of other road users. One should have a control over his driving as well as have a control of other drivers’ views, that is called as anticipation. For example, if a car speeds past you on the highway but there's not much space between the car and a slow-moving truck in the same lane, it's a pretty sure bet the driver will try to pull into your lane directly in front of you. Anticipating what another driver might do prepares you to react and helps reduce your risk.

Avoid aggressive driving think of your safety first. When you start caring about your safety you in turn reduce the risk of accidents for others caused by you. If a driver is driving recklessly just get out of his way and let him go or you just pull yourself back from him or even pull over to the side of the road for some time. Do not tailgate other cars. This gives you comfort level in braking while the other car suddenly brakes. Also wear the seatbelts always this would let your body be in the safe position during the time of crash.

Always leave an ample amount of space between you and the other car driving in front. Always scan the conditions around you once in every 20 to 30 seconds. These are simple yet strong factors taught by defensive driving course to avoid accidents happening in the road.

Understand the importance of defensive driving and follow the guidelines provided during the course. The course can be enrolled by all via the Motor Vehicles Department of the State by paying a nominal fee. Most states maintain a list of approved defensive driving course many of which offer online programs. They cost money, but after successfully completing a course in some states, you may be eligible for insurance premium discounts, "positive" safe driving points, or other benefits according to the course and fee you chose to study.
